How To Get The Best Out Of BlogRush (And Prevent You From Being Dropped)

It has been close to a week since the launch of BlogRush and the result has been explosive. A short 5 days see more than 40 millions blog post listed on the widget and it is still increasing.

However, news have spread that some of the blogs do not have quality content and this has heavily affected the quality of the service.

No one would want to see links to poor content blogs appearing on their sites.

Adding to this, some hackers are writing automated script to auto load the widget so as to earn more syndicated credit for their sites. (Arrghh… these hackers just never stop.)

It is good to hear from John Reese that his team is going to manually review all the submitted blogs from now on before adding them to the database. For those blogs that are already in the database, they will also review all of them to make sure they fulfill the quality standard, else they will be dropped from the database.

While this is a good move from the administration side, I believe we also need to do our part to make this BlogRush project a success. Here what you can do to get the best out of BlogRush (and prevent you from being dropped):

Have a specific blog theme and stay focus

What is your blog about? Do you have a habit about discussing politics today, then technology tomorrow? The trick here is to stay focused. If your blog is about dog, don’t talk about cat. The benefits you will be getting are:

  • easier for you to blog,
  • easier to attract more targeted audience
  • easier for your reader to read,
  • easier for search engine to spider and
  • easier for BlogRush to place you in a more relevant category and issue you more syndication credit.

Write compelling headlines

The BlogRush widget only displays headlines from your latest posts. It is quite obvious that you have to write compelling headlines to attract people to click on it. Make full use of attention catchers such as “How to…”, “Discover…”, “Learn…”, “… 5 most effective ways…” to arouse the interest of your reader. Capitalizing the first character of every words also help to get attention.

Write relevant content

If your blog headline promised “…5 effective ways”, make sure you revealed the 5 ways in your content. Nowadays, readers are also very particular about what they read. Since there are so many blogs out there that are discussing the same topic as you, why do they have to spend their time on your site, reading posts that are not relevant to the headline?

Increase the number of pageviews

The number of times your blog headline is displayed in other people widget is dependent on the number of syndication credits you have, which in turn is determined by the number of pageviews you have daily. There are some strategies that have been extremely useful in driving traffic to your site.

  1. Blog regularly. All blogs have syndication. The more you blog, the more posts that are syndicated and the more traffic you have. Trust me, my traffic always soar when I write new post.
  2. Write keyword optimized post. Syndicated content get picked up by the search engine quickly. Keyword optimized your post allows you to rank high in the Google and get traffic from Google.
  3. Participate in blog community such as MyBlogLog. This community really works. I have lot of fans from this community who tuned into my blog regularly.

Increase the number of referrals

BlogRush also understands that some of the blogs do not have enough traffic to generate a high daily pageview. Their solution to this is to allow you to earn syndication credit through recruitment. People who sign up under your referral link become your network and you can earn syndication credit from their pageviews. The fastest way to increase the number of people in your network is to

  1. blog about BlogRush and place your referral link in strategically position
  2. Place a BlogRush widget on your site.
  3. Send a short email notice to all your subscribers, informing them about the BlogRush program.
  4. Email your friends about the BlogRush program and invite them to join.
  5. Include the referral link in the signature of all your outgoing email.

I believe these few ways should be sufficient for now to get the best out of BlogRush. I will continue to brainstorm more ideas and update my post again. If you have not got on BlogRush, try it now!

Meanwhile, if you have any brilliant ideas to add on to the list, feel free to leave your comment.
